Peter Charbonneau

A Bit About Me

Peter Charbonneau is a retired sergeant from the City of Tampa Police Department with over 31 years of law enforcement experience. Peter is originally from Massachusetts and began his law enforcement career there in 1993.

Peter joined the Tampa Police Department in 2000.  Peter worked in uniformed patrol and street crime units, served as a field training officer, served as a narcotics detective, served as a liaison in the Office of the Chief of Police, served as a patrol corporal, and was promoted to sergeant in 2011. 

In the last eight years leading up to his retirement in 2024, Peter commanded the department’s High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Initiative. In this capacity, Peter oversaw complex multijurisdictional investigations that focused on disrupting and dismantling upper-echelon drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises. Peter also served as a Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tampa Field Office, and held a top-secret security clearance. 

After retiring from the City of Tampa, Peter joined the Tampa Airport Police Department as a police officer. In this capacity, Peter responded to medical and aviation emergencies, TSA security checkpoint violations involving weapons and contraband, investigated flight interference and unruly passenger incidents, conducted criminal investigations, and ensured compliance with FAA security protocols. Peter gained valuable insight and experience in airport operations and the challenges of maintaining safety and security at a major international airport. 

Peter desires to continually engage in the responsibilities and expectations that come with conducting quality and successful investigations. Peter also understands the importance of maintaining a positive image and reputation, and he adheres to the same values and high level of professionalism that he has throughout his career.
